London to Paris 2016 - Part Five
It is now just four weeks until KDW’s Marcus Maisey, Lawrie Jellows, Nic Kamintzis and Mark Peddle begin their four day challenge cycling 500kms from London to Paris! KDW’s riders will be cycling alongside friends Mark Lemon, Matt McParland, Neil Hutchinson and Will Cayzer to raise £10,000 for Myeloma UK.
In our last update our fundraising had picked up pace and the team were slowly starting to increase their training as the reality of cycling 500kms in four days began to sink in!
Find out what’s happened in the last four weeks...
Team Training
Last month certain members of the team were doing more training than others. However this month everyone has been out on their bikes!
Now that Nic’s bike has been repaired there is no stopping him! Nic and Marcus cycled 37miles to the Dunstable Downs. They may have experienced two punctures however Nic is now a dab hand at dealing with punctures and took care of them – no problem!
This ride saw Nic and Marcus face Bison Hill however this time much to Marcus’s relief it was downhill only!
On 1st April Marcus, Lawrie and Mark all headed out on a particularly steep 48 mile rides to Ashridge Hill and the Chiltern Hills, cycling an impressive 48 miles. This particular cycle ride led to Lawrie picking up a new nickname of ‘The Mountain Goat’....
Keen to start the back to back rides to see how their tired legs would cope, Marcus arranged another ride for 2nd April. On this journey he was joined by Lawrie and Matt McParland cycling 30 miles to the Dunstable Downs.
March contained a special birthday for Marcus and he proved his dedicated to his training regime by organising a cycling holiday to the Isle of Wight with his wife!
Fundraising
Last month KDW staff member were set the challenge of collectively donating £400 to the teams JustGiving page. If they managed to raise £400 then Marcus, Lawrie, Nic and Mark agreed they would all have their legs waxed.
This target was hit in 48 hours, with people after that donating £50 for the honour of personally pulling a strip off! We have arranged for a beautician to come into the office on Thursday 21st April to de-fuzz the guys! Pictures will follow in our next and final blog!
We have been overwhelmed by the very kind donations we have received and we now are almost halfway to our target, with £4,968 donated to our JustGiving page.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the very generous support and donations from family, friends, staff , Cornelian, Octopus Investments, Blackfinch, Brooks Macdonald, LV= Protection Team and Close Brothers.
Why are we fundraising for Myeloma UK?
Myeloma UK is the only UK charity that exclusively research Myeloma and support Myeloma patients and their families. Our support for this charity is particularly vital as they rely almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising activities, receiving no government funding.

We have chosen to support this charity as it has a personal connection with Lawrie. In 2012 a close family member was diagnosed with the disease, at the time of diagnosis Lawrie had never heard of Myeloma. He quickly learnt more about the charity and became a proud supporter and fundraiser.
After cycling from London to Brighton last year, Lawrie decided to take on a bigger challenge and enlist some support!
Please give generously to help us reach our fundraising target of £10,000. To donate visit our JustGiving page.
All donations raised by the team will go direct to Myeloma UK. The team are self funding their participation in the event.
